The problem with Facebook is that you don't get to own and control your content. Fleeting thoughts thin out the good stuff, and the whole mess fades away as quickly as it rolls in. I've decided to revive the Beanblog for the things I want to stick around longer than 12 hours. Stay tuned?

TrachBang is back up. If you had a user account before, the new site should honor your old user name and password. The format has changed, and the functionality is a bit different. The main functional changes are

• Under the "my account" link, you can update your rss/atom feed (they both work now). Everone who has an account can add their feed, and all feeds are updated every 3-4 hours (unless forced) on the main page.
• Blog entries can now be rated, although no comments can be left (comments should go on the blog itself).
• I condensed the TBS down to 5 ratings (Trach, OTE, eh, yyNice, and BANG!).

As of now, the major improvements on deck are

• Add a "recent comments" area.
• Keep track of what you've clicked on (i.e. add a "new" icon next to things you haven't seen yet).
• Create some HTML code that can be embedded in blog templates to allow for mo betta remote rating.
• Add some kind of overall user/blog popularity stats.
• Search entries, Random entries, etc.

. It's not 100% complete, but it should be usable. Try it out and let me know if you find any errors/bugs or have any ideas for improvements.

Beanblog has been down for just about 1 month. The PC I was using as a server overheated and the hard drive failed. Thanks to Hiren's Boot CD, I was able to recover the data, but decided to ditch the overheated frankenstein computer and go with a real host (hostmonster.com).

Over the next few days I hope to get all of the domains and subdomains back up. Please leave me a comment in this blog entry if you see errors (robot alert doesn't count).

Beanblog was down yesterday. It's back now, obviously. It now has a new home in a dedicated server room. If you have any problems, let me know.

So I finally got my "Technorati Tags" working. When relevant, they'll appear at the bottom of the post with the prefix "TTags:". Each tag perfoms two functions. First off, it flags my post as having to do with a certin subject - this way, when Technorati spiders my site, it is able to categorize my post. Secondly, it provides a link to the Technorati Tag page that will list related items (blogs, links, and pictures). Nifty. Thanks Seleb.

I'm switching to a new blog tool. This time, I'm writing my own (you are viewing it right now). I know enough PHP and MySQL to make something usable, and I'll have complete control over formatting and whatnot. I've imported all of my blogger posts, and I'll be working on getting my old webcrimson posts in here as well as updating old blog text to clean up the links I break.

Commenting shoudl still work, so if you see any problems on the page, leave me a note under this entry. I probably won't be adding much new content until I get this straightened up. So solly.

Yeah, I'm sure you've noticed the little google ad at the top right. It's been there for a while. Guess what - when you click on it, I get money. Really, no nonsense, 100% real cash money. I'm not allowed to tell you to click on it, cause that would violate the term and conditions of my arangement with the great google god. But man oh man, free monies for blogging sure would be keen. If you'd like to set one up on your blog, go here - it's really easy, and I'll click the shit out of it!

I finally go fed up with webcrimson.com. It's an ancient blogging engine and has no active support available. When something goes wrong with the server, there is nobody to ask for help. Unfortunately, I have several years worth of blogs there, so it's gonna hurt a little bit switching to something new. I am hoping to make the switch to Blogger, leave the old benablog archives out there on beanblog.org, and continue BABAI'ing here at beanblog.com. It'll take some doing to archive the comments off as well... I'll have to work on that later. But anyway, all links to beanblog.org shoudl remain valid since I'll be continuing at ".com". I'll probably go in and add some kind of notice at the top of each ".org" page so that any potiential reader not in the know can find new content. Anyway, taht's that, and as soon as I can get access to wecrimsons servers again, I'll have a funny blog for ya.
